Mary Lloyd in Ward 5 and Diane Ballantyne in Ward 6 were acclaimed after no challengers filed before Friday’s nomination deadline.
Two seats on Wellington County Council have been decided without a vote after the nomination period for the 2026 municipal election officially closed on Friday.
Mary Lloyd has been acclaimed as Wellington County Councillor for Ward 5, while Diane Ballantyne has been acclaimed as Wellington County Councillor for Ward 6.
Both were the only candidates to file for their respective seats before the nomination deadline, leaving the two races uncontested.
An acclamation occurs when the number of certified candidates for an office does not exceed the number of available seats. In this case, with one candidate seeking each of the Ward 5 and Ward 6 positions, no election is required for either seat.
County Ward 5
Mary Lloyd — Acclaimed
Lloyd was the sole candidate nominated for Wellington County Ward 5 and will therefore be elected without appearing in a contested race on the October ballot.
County Ward 6
Diane Ballantyne — Acclaimed
Ballantyne was also the only candidate nominated for Wellington County Ward 6 and has been acclaimed to the seat.
While voters in Wards 5 and 6 will not need to cast a ballot for their Wellington County councillor, they will still be able to vote in the other municipal and school board races applicable to their address.
Other contested races across Centre Wellington and Wellington County will proceed to election day on October 26, 2026.
